Donald W. Ackerman, age 79, of Troy, died at 5:35 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at his residence.

He was born on May 10, 1925, in Troy, the son of the late Carl and Melanie Theise Ackerman.
He married Elaine Wille on July 7, 1951. She survives.
Also surviving is a son: Donald Ackerman and wife, Elaine of Festus, Mo.; four daughters: Karen Simpson and husband, Louis and Patricia Jameson and husband, Rusty, all of Troy, Kay Hill and husband, Chris of Edwardsville, and Diane Dunigan and husband, Doug of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother: Kenneth Ackerman of Troy; a sister: Ruth Woker of Greenville; and 17 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: William Ackerman; and a grandson: Kevin Simpson.
Mr. Ackerman was the owner/operator of Ackerman's Restaurant with his wife, Elaine. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. His memberships included St. Paul Lutheran Church in Troy, a past member of Troy Lions Club, and a member of the American Legion Post 708.
Friends and family may call after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Laughlin Funeral Home in Troy.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Troy with Rev. James Zimmerman, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at Forever Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.
Pallbearers will be Donald Ackerman, Kurt Simpson, Casey Hill, Donald Ackerman Jr., Patrick Jameson, Louis Simpson and Bryan Hill.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Lutheran School or Gateway Hospice.
