Glenn Rittenhouse Obituary

Glenn C. Rittenhouse, age 89, of Petersburg, passed away on Monday April 11, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born on Nov. 23, 1921, the son of Paul Edward and Alta Mae Call Rittenhouse.
He married Harriet Murphy on March 24, 1946 in Pontiac. She preceded him in death in 2004.
Glenn is survived by his companion, Helena Heyen of Petersburg; two children, Kenneth (Carolyn) Rittenhouse Sr. of Bloomington and Ann (Roger) Buchta of Glen Carbon; six grandchildren, Kenie (Kellie) Rittenhouse, Kevin Rittenhouse, Heather Causer, Jan Buchta, Elizabeth Buchta, and Glenn Buchta; three great grandchildren, Daniel Rittenhouse, Emma Reimer, and Brandon Causer. He is also survived by a brother, Ernest (Emily) Rittenhouse of Long Point; a sister, Doris Ryan of Tonica; a sister-in-law Mary Rittenhouse of Pontiac; a brother-in-law Kenneth (Elizabeth) Murphy; and a sister-in-law Barbara Murphy of Westby, Wisc.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step mother, Mardelle Baker Rittenhouse, wife and brother Paul Rittenhouse Jr.
Glenn was an active member of the First Christian Church of Petersburg. He worked as a farm equipment dealer and as a manufacturer's representative and was past president of Illinois Retail Farm Equipment Dealers Association. He was a member of the American Legion, the Rotary Club, and the Vintage Ag Association and served as volunteer chief for the Long Point Fire Department for 17 years. He was a private pilot and enjoyed boating and antique farm equipment.
He served in both the Navy and Air Force during World War II as part of the 6th Bomb Group (B-29's) in the Pacific Theater.
A memorial service will be on Friday April 15, at 10 a.m., at the First Christian Church in Petersburg with visitation one hour prior.
A graveside service will begin at 3 p.m., that day, at the Long Point Cemetery in Long Point, Ill.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or to Menard County Rescue Squad.

Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
