Robert J. Swiatek, 78 of Edwardsville and formerly of Granite City passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at his home. Robert was born on November 7, 1935 in Madison, IL, a son to the late Joseph and Dorothy (Nickoloff) Swiatek.
He was self made real estate developer in the Granite City area, having built Maryland Manor Apartments, Colonial Haven Nursing Home, now Stearns Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Colonial Bank, now Regions Bank. He was a member of the Granite City Elks Lodge #1063, the Polish Hall, the Croatian Hall and a former member of the Con Trios Yacht Club.
In his free time Robert's passion was boating and spending time with his family.
He is survived by and will be missed by his son; Jeff and (Christina) Swiatek of Edwardsville; daughter, Kim and (Keith) Bridges of Glen Carbon; grandchildren, Beau Swiatek of Edwardsville, Carmen Swiatek of Edwardsville, Audrey Bridges of Glen Carbon, Caroline Bridges of Glen Carbon, Isabella Bridges of Glen Carbon; sister, JoAnn Rozycki of New Port Richey, FL; brother, Jerry and (Paula) Swiatek of Dunedin, FL.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Swiatek.
Friends may call on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.
In celebration of his life services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Ave. in Granite City with Fr. Joseph Havrilka officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
