Ruth M. Christensen, age 90, of Glen Carbon, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born May 25, 1924, in Edwardsville, the daughter of the late Edward and Edna (Koenig) Schaberg.
Ruth worked for Union Electric and then for the federal government as a key punch operator.
She married Christian A. Christensen on June 4, 1948, in Edwardsville. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2005.
Ruth is survived by one daughter: Norma Pennington of New York City and one grandson: Jonathan Pennington of New York City; one sister: Elinor Thiems of Edwardsville; one brother: Harold Schaberg of Edwardsville; two nieces: Janet Austill of Mississippi and Susan Schaberg of St. Louis and four nephews: Richard Meyer, and wife Mary, of Bunker Hill, Craig Thiems of Edwardsville, Mark Schaberg of Wood River and Mike Schaberg of Wood River.
Ruth was preceded in death by one sister: Helen Meyer.
She was a member of Eden United Church of Christ in Edwardsville, a life member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Nebraska, the Orchards Home Owners Association and was a past member of the Golden Seniors at Eden Church.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, at the funeral home with the Rev. Diane Grohmann officiating.
Interment will be in St. James Cemetery in Fort Russell Township.
The family requests that memorials be made to Eden United Church of Christ.
