Jack McWhorter, 72, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:07 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at his home.
He was born June 24, 1941 in Arbyrd, Missouri, a son of the late Jake and Mildred (McClearn) McWhorter.
He married Yoshiko (Nakamine) McWhorter on June 25, 1963 in Naha, Okinawa and she passed away on March 19, 2009.
He proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corp. He retired in 2003 from Air Products in Granite City after over 25 years of dedicated service as a truckdriver.
He was a member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City and a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed his days of yardwork, traveling, watching baseball and his cherished grandchildren.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Shannon McWhorter of Edwardsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Randy Gantt of Carmel, Indiana; six grandchildren, Elisabeth, Grant, Elaine, Gavin, Maddie and Marshall; a brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Mary McWhorter of Highland; a sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Jim Stack of Collinsville; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and many special friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don McWhorter and a sister, Barbara Lindsay.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be at Calvary Life Church, 4650 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Mark Maynard officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
The family wishes memorials be made to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and may be accepted at the funeral home.
