Geneva A. Garbs age 85, of Edwardsville, Illinois, died at 7:20 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville.
She was born on December 30, 1928 in New Baden, Illinois, the daughter of the late Bernard & Rose (Eble) Poelker.
She worked at the Madison County Assessor's Office for many years, before retiring in 1993.
Geneva is survived by five sons, Doug Garbs & wife Jill of Edwardsville, Greg Garbs & wife Joyce of Streator, Illinois, Larry Garbs of Topeka, Kansas, Scott Garbs of Edwardsville, and Chris Garbs of Edwardsville; four grandchildren, Melanie Neely, Brandon Garbs, Carter Garbs, and Mallory Garbs; two great grandchildren, Olivia & Cooper Neely; one brother, Bernard Poelker of Belleville, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Garbs; three brothers, Herbert, Robert, and Joseph Poelker and by three sisters, Wilma, Loretta and Rose.
Geneva was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. She loved playing bridge, traveling, crocheting, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. A mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on
Monday, at St. Boniface with Very Rev. Jeffrey J. Goeckner officiating.
Burial will be at the Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in New Baden, Illinois.
