Sara Queener Twombly, age 46, of Edwardsville, died at 1:54 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. She was born on May 26, 1962, in Knoxville, Tenn., the daughter of George Queener of Hillsboro and the late Mary Julian Queener. She married John Twombly on May 14, 1988, in Edwardsville. He survives. Along with her husband, she is survived by two sons: Clinton Twombly and John Paul Twombly, both of Edwardsville; and a brother: Russell Queener of Hillsboro. Sara had a Master’s Degree in Speech Communications from SIUE. She was employed in Social Services for 25 years, working with people with disabilities, training and placing them in the work force. Her memberships included the League of Women Voters. She never met a stranger and was loved by many circles of friends. She had a big heart and even bigger personality. Her friends also included the more than 30 dogs she fostered over the years. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 9, at Weber and Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 10, at the funeral home, with Fr. Jeff Goeckner officiating. An additional memorial service will be conducted in Fairfield at a later date. According to her wishes, her body will be cremated following funeral services. Memorials may be made to the Metro East Humane Society or a charity of the donor’s choice. Weber and Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville is in charge of arrangements.
