Maxwell W. Bratten, age 89 of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.

He was born in Edwardsville on December 13, 1923, the son of Maxwell W. and Minna (Glaser) Bratten. He married Rosemary H. Jones at St. Boniface on August 18, 1947. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2012.
Maxwell was a member of St. Boniface, the Edwardsville Lions, a lifetime member of the Edwardsville Moose, and a past member of Edwardsville Gun Club. He served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during W.W.II, and he received a Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, 2 Bronze Battle Stars, 5 Overseas Service Bars, and 1 Service Stripe.
Maxwell worked for L & M Rail Road as a lineman for 50 years, retiring in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Morrison of Edwardsville; grandson Alex Morrison of Carlyle; brothers Walter Bratten of Edwardsville, Robert Bratten of Moro, Samuel Bratten of Woodburn, George Bratten of Chula Vista, CA, William Bratten of Creral Springs, and Charles Bratten of Wood River; and sisters Emma Kipp and Anna Farrell of Edwardsville and Helen Albright of Prairietown.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell W. and Minna (Glaser) Bratten Sr. and a brother, Emil Bratten of Florida.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville with Fr. Jeff Goeckner officiating. Alexander Morrison, Mike Jones, John Jones, Brandon Jones, Steve Jones, Stacy Rigdon, Ricky Jones and Randy Jones will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Edwardsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Edwardsville Lions Club and the Angel Fund at St. Boniface.
