Eddie Holik Obituary

SAN ANGELO Eddie Frank Holik Sr., 84, joined his Lord and Savior in Heaven on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at his home surrounded by family. A service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Wall Brethren Church. The Rev. Tommy Tallas will be officiating. Burial will be in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Eddie was born on Oct. 31, 1928, in Rowena, Texas, to Frank and Albina Ripple Holik. He met the love of his life, Elsie Dusek, who preceded him in death in 2006, at a Wall Brethren Church convention. They were married on July 30, 1950, at Taylor Brethren Church. They settled in the Wall community where they began a farming life together which lasted almost 56 years. Eddie was a member of Wall Brethren Church, in which he served as an elder and chaired the Harvest Festival BBQ Committee for many years. Blessed with a large family and many friends, Dad shared his love of cooking and hospitality with his loved ones at every opportunity, especially lunches each Sunday after church. These get-togethers also included dove cookouts, fish fries, sausage-making and playing dominoes. He also loved to spend time fishing, hunting and attending sporting events that his kids and grandkids participated in. Survivors include his children, Albina Phillips and husband Jim of Carrollton, Texas, Eddie Holik Jr. and wife Brenda of Veribest, Benny Holik and wife Marilyn, Linda Miller and husband David, Adolph Holik and wife Gayla, John Holik and wife Kim and Becky LaBadelle and husband Ronnie, all of Wall; grandchildren James Phillips III and wife Letitia of McKinney, Texas, Matt Phillips and wife Leslie of West Hills, Calif., Eddie (Trey) Holik III of College Station, Elizabeth Odom and husband Christopher, Brian Holik and wife Mackenzie, Sarah Gallander and husband Sam, Jill Fisher and husband Travis and Susan Neal and husband Bryan, all of San Angelo, Andrew and Shanna Holik, Rachel and Hannah Holik and Lance, Shawn and Shane LaBedelle, all of Wall; and great-grandchildren Macqueleigh, Gunner, Axel and Aiva Phillips of McKinney, Texas, Madison and Lola Phillips of West Hills, Calif., Abigail and Nathan Holik of Eldorado, Texas, Cason Odom, Brady Neal and Julianne Holik, all of San Angelo. He is also survived by his sisters, Albina Plagens and husband Milton and Marcella Carpenter; brother-in-law Adolph Riemenschneider and wife Anita; sister-in-law Wanda Holik; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Frank and wife Libby, Stanley and wife Ruby and Walter; sisters Libby Dusek and husband Henry and Georgia Riemenschneider; and brothers-in-law Henry Ripple and wife Ann, Willie Dusek and wife Mary and Aaron Carpenter. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, their spouses, his grandsons' spouses and his great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo for their loving care and attention. A special thanks goes to all of Dad's caretakers. The family requests that memorials be made to Wall Brethren Church at P.O. Box 195, Wall, TX 76957; or to Hospice of San Angelo at P.O. Box 471, San Angelo, TX 76902.

My prayers are with the family. May God comfort you in this time of need. I remember Mr. Holik when he used to trade in Harry's Food Store on Twohig. He was my favorite customer. He'll be greatly missed. God Bless.
