Cynthia Sauer Obituary

ELDORADO Cynthia Anne Baker Sauer, 72, of Eldorado, was born on July 12, 1940, in Temple, Texas, to Clyde and Estelle Baker. She passed from this life peacefully in her home on Monday, March 18, 2013. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Mertzon Highway Church of Christ in Eldorado with Darrell Brawley officiating. Cynthia grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1959. She attended Tx Wesleyan College where she met and married Duwain Sauer. Cynthia was baptized soon after she married and was very active for the Lord her entire life. She and Duwain were house parents at Christ's Haven Children's Home in Keller, Texas, for a number of years. While Duwain worked full-time at a bank she did an amazing job of managing a home of 15-17 kids. She was always up for whatever surprise Duwain had for her such as planting and tending a 5-acre garden and raising 200 chickens at a time to eat (with 18 kids!!) In 1975 they moved back to Eldorado to farm full-time. They lived on Duwain's home place 20 miles from town. It was common for Duwain to bring extra people home for a meal. She would use whatever ingredients she had on hand to cook up a delicious meal. She was always hospitable. Cynthia was a city girl who married a country boy. Even though she had been raised in the city, she learned how to garden, preserve foods, milk the cow and make delicious food with all these products. If Duwain could grow it or hunt it, she could cook it up. Her greatest love was her family. She raised her children in the Lord. She was one of the first to show up and bring food to any event or need. Teaching Sunday school brought her much joy. Cynthia attended any game or event her children and then grandchildren had. As her health declined, she still loved to go. Anywhere her grandkids were that we could get a wheelchair, she was there. She was also an avid Spurs and Texas Rangers fan. Last year she was able to go to a Rangers game. In April 2012, Cynthia moved into the Eldorado Nursing Home. She was no longer able to attend worship services at the church building, so the members of the Church of Christ would go to the nursing home every Sunday night and sing to the residents and offer communion. This was the highlight of her week. Cynthia always made the most of what she had and served where she could. She did this because she put God first and loved others as she loved herself. She will be deeply missed. Praise the Lord that she perservered to the end and has a home with God. Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Estelle Baker; and her sister, Carolyn Humphries. Cynthia is survived by her husband of 51 years, Duwain Sauer, of Eldorado; her son, Robert Newman and his wife, Belinda, of Keller; daughter Lynna Mikeska and her husband, Lanis, of Eldorado; daughter Melissa Murr and husband Marcus, of Sonora; and Carrie Pridemore and husband Mike of Eldorado. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Denver Marsh, Dr. DeMory, the staff at Shannon Hospital, Hospice of San Angelo and the staff at Schleicher Co. Medical Center and Nursing Home.
