Jerry Frimml Obituary

SAN ANGELO Jerry Thomas Frimml, 67, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014. A gathering of family and friends is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at the residence of 3617 Sunset Drive in San Angelo. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way. Jerry was born in Burlington, Wash., to Walter Franklin Frimml and Rowena Pearl (England) Frimml. He attended schools in Everett and Stanwood, Wash., graduated from Twin City High School in Stanwood in 1965. Jerry was an outstanding athlete in track, and especially football. He continued to compete in both for many years, including playing and coaching semi-pro football teams in Germany. After graduation, Jerry joined the Army and became a helicopter mechanic and crewman. He served several tours in Vietnam, for about six years. Jerry was wounded in action and was awarded several Purple Heart medals as well as other medals. He felt he should "be where the action was." He spent most of his post war duty in Germany, and retired after more than 22 years of service, retiring as Sergeant 1st Class Helicopter Crew Chief. During that period he also spent time in several troubled areas of the Middle East. He was hired by Army contractors to work as a civilian doing basically what he had done while in the service, much of the time in Germany over the following twenty five years. Jerry then again retired and moved to San Angelo, Texas to settle down near his son and friends. Last fall he was diagnosed with lung cancer. The doctor stated this may have been partly caused by "Agent Orange" exposure while in Vietnam. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother James E. Frimml; and sister Karla J. Spurr. He is survived by his brother, Dennis L. Frimml; daughter Angela Krohn; sons John Thomas Frimml and Maximillon Frimml; step-son Kenneth Romine; and special friends Janet Leyrer and Patti Marzullo, who have been of much support over the past several months. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews and special cousin, Gary Baldwin. Online condolences may be made at shafferpioneer.com.
