Monita Patterson Obituary

SAN ANGELO Monita Maurine Carnes Patterson, 67, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. Monita was born in San Angelo, Texas, on Sept. 28, 1943, to Wallace and Marion Carnes. She spent her early years in San Angelo, attended Central High School and attended San Angelo College, where she was a cheerleader. She later moved to Dallas, where she met and married John Patterson. They moved to Seoul, S. Korea, where they spent the next 15 years. During that time, Monita was active in the ex-pat community, the International Women's Club and the Seoul American Women's Club, social organizations which supported Korean orphanages. During her years there, she had the opportunity to travel extensively, see many wonders and have grand adventures. Upon her return to San Angelo, she enjoyed the company of her family, her friends and her pets. She had quite the green thumb and loved plants and gardening. Her favorite moments were early mornings spent in her beautiful backyard, which she was able to enjoy an extra 10 years. Monita was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace Carnes and Marion Lowry; grandparents Tom and Maurine Carnes and Pryor and Monita Mapes; and her brother, Wallace Carnes. She is survived by her husband, John Patterson; stepmother Mary Carnes; stepbrother Mark Behrend of Red Wood, Calif.; her aunts, Jackie Drake, Dora Sugg Pfluger, Genevieve Carnes; her uncle, Pat Carnes and wife Patricia of Conroe, Texas; and many wonderful and loving cousins and special lifelong friends. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Humane Society of Tom Green County. A visitation for family and friends will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to sign an online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.

This photo does capture the essence of our dear friend. Monita touched so many lives in so many ways. She was the ultimate caregiver, a whiz in the kitchen and leaves a multitude of happy memories. John, you and all the family are in our thoughts.

Monita appreciated the love and company of her family, friends, and her pets. She had a passion for Christmas and pigs, which she shared and displayed for all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

The picture of Monita says it all--full of spirit, life and laughter. She was always kind, generous and thoughtful. She made people feel good. To this day, I never pass a "pig" something that I don't think of her! We send our best to John and her extended family. I was happy to have come to San Angelo many years ago and share time with you.
