SAN ANGELO Betty Bates O'Diorne passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Monday, April 8, 2013. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside service is at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Rodger Bednar officiating. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jim O'Diorne; and her parents, Lester and Bertie Bates. She is survived by her son, Lester Purdham and wife Mary of Weatherford; her daughter, Debra Purdham; sister Kathy Palmer and husband Norman of Colleyville; granddaughter Jennifer Mancha and husband Roland and great-granddaughter Lauren of Spring Branch; granddaughter Heather Prindes and husband Chris and great-grandson Bryce of San Angelo. Betty was born in San Angelo, Texas, on May 14, 1932. She graduated from San Angelo High School in 1950. She spent much of her 20's and 30's as a homemaker, wife and mother. Betty held a variety of jobs over the years - secretary to the principal at Lakeview Junior High, administrative assistant at Western Mattress, Deltex and WTMA to name a few. She loved and enjoyed her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very supportive and proud of all her accomplishments. In addition to the love of family, she had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She also loved to dance, to the point where you had to pull her off the dance floor. Betty never met a stranger and was kind to those fortunate enough to make her acquaintance. A love of animals was evident in the number of "children", in the form of cats and dogs, which were nurtured by her over the years. Her compassion, laugh, wit and caring way will be remembered and missed greatly. She was an incredible person and those that knew her were fortunate to have known her. We will miss you Mom, Sister and Nana.\ A special thanks to everyone at Meadowcreek Nursing, especially J.R., Wayne and Rebecca.
