H. Andrew Dickson Sr.

SAN ANGELO On Monday evening, an amazing husband, son, brother, Dad, uncle, and Papa went to rejoice in heaven. H. Andrew Dickson Sr. was born Aug. 6, 1949, to Cecil and Clara Dickson in Hattiesburg, Miss., and passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, in San Angelo, Texas. The family of Cecil and Clara moved to San Angelo when Andy was 8 months old. He proceeded to graduate from Lake View High School and met his sweetheart, Becky Simcik, while attending Angelo State University. They were married on June 20, 1970. He was drafted during the Vietnam War and served two years at Fort Hood. Andy and Becky were blessed with two sons, AJ and Tim, who later gave them two daughters, Deanna Passmore and Esther Conaway. Andy and Becky were also blessed with several "adopted" sons including Mickey Henton, Devon Daricek, Ryan Haverlah and Mitchell Bethune. Some of his greatest blessings are Papa's Pretty Girls: granddaughters Ana, Marina, Clarissa and Giada. Andy is also survived by his brother, Larry, and his wife, Sandra; his sister, Mari, and her husband, Ron; mother-in-law Georgia Simcik; sisters-in-law Paula Kershaw and her husband, Bob, Debbi Nichols and her husband, Ben; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and innumerable friends. Andy began work as a finish carpenter, later earned an associate's degree in fire science from Midland College, while working as a firefighter with the San Angelo Fire Department, then became a beekeeper and later maintenance man and finally, security guard. His hobbies included stained glass works, wood-working, gardening, hunting, fishing, softball, golf and caring for his pretty girls. His greatest passion was singing bass and leading praise and worship, most recently for Victory Assembly in Robert Lee, Texas. His big bear hugs, constant smile, infectious laughter and unchanging jovial attitude will be missed by anyone that ever knew him. He now has a perfect body to match his perfect soul, and can walk pain-free along the streets of gold, praising his Savior Jesus Christ. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas. Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Johnson's Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to San Angelo First Assembly Chi Alpha Ministries. Family and friends may sign an online guestbook a johnsons-funeralhome.com.
