Julius Virgil Holubec

BALLINGER Though losing the battles with dementia and several other health issues, the war was won when his journey to be with his Lord, and see his wife began Friday evening, May 16, 2014. Julius Virgil Holubec was born to Joe and Albina (Urban) Holubec on the family farm near Lowake on Sept. 16, 1924. He attended Grunwald School, later transferring and graduating from Ballinger High School. While serving in the Army during World War II, his assignment was to be a prison guard at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Upon returning home, he married Dorothy Wendland on July 18, 1947. They shared 61 loving years of marriage before her death on Oct. 7, 2008. He was also preceded by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, August and Clara Wendland; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfons and Lillie, Arnold and Betty, Edward and Tudy and Pete; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella and Ed Kudlacek; twin sister, Julie and Emil Smetana; and in-laws Helen and Lavan Mahlow and Nora and Lee Halfmann. Julius was a farmer all his life, settling in the Rowena area. To him, farming was work, but it was also his passion. Those left to cherish Julius' memory are those three granddaughters and their families who always put a sparkle in "Popo's" eyes, Jessica and Matt Norton and their son, Trail, of Midkiff, Bailey and Corey Naugle and their daughter, Bristol, and Koreley and Matt Whittington and their son, Maverick, all of Stratford. Also surviving are his daughter, Janice Parker and husband Luke of Ballinger; his son, Dennis Holubec and wife Sherry of Midkiff ; a brother, Melton Holubec and wife Beverly of Hereford; sister-in-law Irene Holubec of Melvin; and brothers-in-law Marvin Wendland and wife Doris and Eugene Wendland and wife Doris, all of San Angelo. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, in Lange Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Rowena Protestant Cemetery. Pastor Tom Baden will officiate. Thank you to both, Pastor Tom and Betty, for all of your years of service and visits to the Holubecs. The family extends a sincere thank you to Ballinger Healthcare and Rehab Center. What respect was shown by the staff to "papa" as they called Julius during the last week or so as he departed the facility. Also, a special thank you to Ballinger Hospice for their care in Julius' final weeks. God bless. Arrangements are with Lange Funeral Home. Guests may register online at ballingerfuneralhome.com.
