Lydia Bond Davis

SAN ANGELO Lydia Bond Davis died at home on Nov. 13, 2013, at the age of 94. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Davis was born Aug. 5, 1919, in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Lewis Honyman Bond and Ruth Bowman Bond. Her family later moved to Vernon, Texas where she graduated from Vernon High School. She then attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas and later Angelo State University. In 1942 Lydia married Roy B. Davis Jr. and after his service in the Army Air Force, they moved to San Angelo where their children were born. Mrs. Davis served as a Cub Scout Leader, Adult Adviser to the Senior Girl Scout Council and as a member of the El Camino Girl Scout Council. Over the years Mrs. Davis served as a member of the Board of the Junior League of San Angelo, the West Texas Therapy Center, the American Field Service, Project Dignidad and Shannon Medical Center Auxiliary, of which she was a founding member. A member of First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo since 1945, she taught Church School classes, led training events for teachers in the Presbytery of Tres Rios, served as a member of the Christian Education Committee of Presbytery and directed Presbytery-wide conferences for retired people at Indian Lodge and Mo-Ranch. From 1969 to 1988 she was Assistant to the Minister at First Presbyterian Church, later serving as Coordinator of Volunteers until her retirement in 1991. Mrs. Davis was a friend to everyone and known for her unconditional love of people. With an ever-present smile, she lived with boundless grace, determination and faith. Affectionately known as Honeymom by her family and many friends, she was a steadfast example of someone who selflessly lived to serve others. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Roy B. Davis, Jr.; infant daughter Linda Davis; parents Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bond; brother Lewis Bond Jr. and his wife LeKathrin; and great-grandson Samuel Cooper. She was also preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy B. Davis Sr.; brother-in-law Lloyd Davis and his wife, Eloise; and sister-in-law Minnie Frances Foster and her husband, Reynolds. Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter, Carol and her husband, Eugene Cooper, of Berwyn, Pa.; son Robert Davis and his wife, Ann, of Austin; grandchildren Joshua Cooper and his wife, Cassandra, Sarah Seiler and her husband, Jonathon, Larissa Shapren and her husband, Rick, Elisa Cooper, John Cooper and his wife, Abbey, Rachel Donnelly and her husband, Joseph, Amy Jarratt and her husband, Scott and Daniel Davis and his wife, Stephanie; eight great-grandchildren; and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Elizabeth Martinez and Angie Palazuelos for their loving care and support.
