William Bill Casselberry

SAN ANGELO William "Bill" Casselberry of Lubbock (formerly of San Angelo) went to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, July 13, 2013. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, in Fairmount Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way. William was born in Liberty Hill, Texas, May 17, 1918. He graduated from San Angelo High School and served in World War II in the 380th Bomb Group where he was awarded the Soldier's Medal for heroism at Mindoro, Philippine Islands. He married Margie Pentecost on March 23, 1946, and celebrated 59 years of marriage before her death in 2005. He owned several businesses in San Angelo before working at Goodfellow AFB and later at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, N.M., as head of reclamation. He and his wife opened a Bernina Sewing Center in Alamogordo and later in El Paso, Texas. Upon retirement, they moved back to San Angelo where he lived until moving to Lubbock in 2007. He was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church in Lubbock and a former longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church of San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilas (Molly) and John Casselberry; his brother, Odom Ray; his sister, Margaret Shirey; and his wife, Margie. He is survived by his daughter, Billie Conley and her husband, Larry of Lubbock; and nieces Nargii Shirey of Fredricksburg and Nanett Shirey of Gordonville. He is also survived by several nephews; a brother-in-law; and many cousins. William was a great mechanic and loved to repair all kinds of things. He loved his family and friends, football, fishing, NASCAR and his little dog, Jan. Family suggests memorials be directed to Meals on Wheels of Lubbock.
