Elton Click Obituary

SAN ANGELO "Coach" Elton V. Click, 81, of Paint Rock, Texas, departed this life on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, after a brief illness. Funeral service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Brother Frank Berthold of Chadbourne Street Church of Christ officiating. Private family burial will follow in Paint Rock Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Coach Click was born Dec. 27, 1931, in the Duck Creek community near Paint Rock, Texas, to George Henry and May (Williams) Click. Coach Click graduated from Paint Rock High School in 1949, and attended Howard Payne University, where he was a Golden Gloves contender. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950, and served overseas in French Morocco, Okinawa, Japan, and Phu Cat, Vietnam. While stationed state-side in Altus, Okla., he met the love of his life, Mattie D. D'Spain. They married in California in 1954. Coach Click served as a military K-9 policeman and a drill instructor during his Air Force career. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service during the Vietnam War and retired after 21 years of service as a master sergeant. After he retired from the Air Force in 1971, he returned to his hometown of Paint Rock, Texas. Once there, Coach Click enrolled at Angelo State University and received a bachelor's degree in education. Coach Click coached many sports at Paint Rock, but his passion was for six-man football. In the 1980's, Texas Football magazine dubbed him the "statistically winningest" coach in Texas six-man football. He also coached tennis, golf and track, as well as any other sport a student expressed a dedicated desire to pursue. In 2002, Coach Click moved to Rio Concho Manor. He continued to maintain his enthusiasm for small town Texas football, often making Friday night games in Ballinger, Paint Rock, Christoval and other local towns to follow the hometown teams. Click was a 32 degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Elks Lodge. He attended Chadbourne Street Church of Christ in San Angelo, Texas. Honorary pallbearers will be his seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and May Click; his wife, Mattie D. Click; and eldest son Terry Glenn Click. He is survived by his eldest son Terry's four children, Mattie Faye Click, Allistair Bruch Click, TJ Click and wife Ashley and their two children, daughter Cassidy and son Cobe, Clay Don Click and wife Michelle and their daughter, Harper; a son, retired Marine Corps Col. Robert Lynn Click and wife Gail of Bandera, Texas, their son, Elton Hendrie Click and wife Reeves and their three daughters, Emery, Lawson and Beatrix; his daughter, U.S. Air Force Reserves Major Shelia Click of Corpus Christi, Texas, and her two daughters, Fanninn Click Feldmann and Taylor Click Feldmann; and two brothers, Paul Click and wife Lillie of Burleson, Texas, and Robert Lawson Click of Sebasco Estates, Maine. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Paint Rock Cemetery Association. Coach Click's obituary and memorial guestbook may be viewed online at robertmassie.com.

MSgt Click was my drill instructor at Lackland AFB from April-June 1966, a TSgt at the time. He was very cool, snapping his fingers as we marched. Exceptionally good DI. Remember him well. I know it's been a while, but I just stumbled onto his obituary. Condolences

MSgt Click was a friend and mentor when I entered the Military Training Instructor program. He asked his daughter to visit Lackland AFB and said hello. I appreciated he would remember me. My condolences to his daughter and the Click family.

My condolences to the family. Coach click had the best heart a golden heart. He taught us school lessons as well as lifes lessons. He was a gift from god to us. He will be missed terribly. How fortunate was a to have met such a great soul. To this day I use what he had taught me. May he rest in piece and may he know that he placed his stamp on me. He definitely made a difference in my life.
