SAN ANGELO Gilbert R. "Gembo" Chavez, 90, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, in local care center. Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father A. Swamy Lakkineni officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Gilbert was born May 14, 1923 in Sonora, Texas, to Severo and Margarita (Rodriguez) Chavez. Gilbert served his county in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received a Purple Heart Medal. He worked for Terrill Manufacturing for many years and Weathersby Electric also for many years. Gilbert enjoyed life and having a good time. Gilbert is survived by his son, Gilbert Chavez Jr. of San Angelo; son Richard Chavez and wife Cynthia of San Angelo; daughter Mary Ann Felan of San Antonio; son Fabian Torres of San Angelo; daughter Gloria Salas of San Angelo; daughter Cynthia A. Ramirez of San Angelo; his twin brother, Severo Chavez Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister Anita Urias of Fort Worth; sister Olga Gomez of San Jose, Calif.; sister Lily Trevino of Bakersfield, Calif.; a special nephew Sylvester Garza and wife Amelia of San Angelo; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
