BRADY Roy Leslie Barton, age 86, of Rochelle, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, in San Angelo, Texas. He was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Brady to Roy Taylor Barton and Ruth (Byrd) Barton. He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II, at the age of 17. He finished high school in Fort Worth after returning from serving in the Navy. He started ranching in his youth and "cowboyed" from Montana to Texas until the drought of the 1950's. He married Dolores Glasscock on Dec. 22, 1951 in Acuna, Mexico. He worked for Chevron Oil Company as a marketing representative for 33 years. They lived in San Angelo from 1961 to 1986, when he retired, at which point Roy and Dolores moved to Rochelle. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brady and had served on the Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital Board. A memorial service for Roy Leslie Barton will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Brady with the Rev. Kenneth Barr and the Rev. Phil Steinbach officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church. Interment will be at a later date in Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady. Roy Barton is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Barton of the home; sons Pat Barton and wife Lori of San Angelo, Mike Barton of San Angelo and Tim Barton of San Angelo; and his sister, Betsy B. Laws of Fort Worth. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Becca Jones, Brad Barton, Randy Barton, Matt Barton, Abby Thiry and Tyler Thiry; and great-grandchildren Kaylee and Annabelle.
