MASON Silas Brandenberger, 90, passed away on May 25, 2013, in Fredericksburg, Texas. He was born in the Ten Mile Community, northwest of Mason, Texas, on Dec. 17, 1922 to Silas and Bertha Brandenberger. After attending elementary school in the Ten Mile Community, he graduated from Mason High School and attended Tarleton State College and Texas A&M University. After serving in the Army Quartermaster Corps in World War II, Silas returned home in 1946, to be a rancher in the Ranch Branch and Ten Mile Communities. He married Patsy Hofmann on June 24, 1946, and they had four children. Silas served the community in many ways ? he was a member of the choir at the First United Methodist Church and the Mason Men's Choir. He served as a church trustee as well as a member of the Mason School Board. His pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A hard-working rancher, Silas raised cattle, sheep and Angora goats for many years. He was well-respected for his quality Angus cattle that frequently won blue ribbons at special sales in Mason and San Angelo. Silas was preceded in death by his son, Frank Brandenberger, in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Patsy; sons Bob Brandenberger and his wife, Cheryl of Richardson and Andy Brandenberger and his wife, Stacey of Georgetown; his daughter, Ann Grote and her husband, Tracy of Austin; seven grandchildren, Brynne Komonchak and her husband, Andy, BJ Brandenberger and his wife, Elisha, Elizabeth Hill and her husband, Sean, Laura Grote, Katy, Ethan and Chelsea Brandenberger; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at 1st United Methodist Church of Mason with interment to follow in Gooch Cemetery.
