I will always remember Steven as a very kind, extremely intelligent person and when needed he would give a kind word of support or encouragement. He was always easy to talk to and communicated with a special ease. Personally, he will always be missed because he gave of himself. The joy of competing with him was something I will never forget during those Trout days. He enjoyed learning. It was a pure joy to him. We pushed each other to learn more. I can only image how he effected others' lives when he became a Doctor. It must have been a real pleasure to be his patient. God Blessed him in many ways. He blessed me to know him.

To me, Steven was a close friend and playmate at Trout Elementary and a brilliant classmate at Lufkin High School. Though saddened to hear of his passing, I remember fondly the times we shared. My sincere condolences to his family and others close to him. For those of us who were fortunate enough to know him, we were truly blessed.

To the family!
Stephen always seemed to be ahead of the rest of us, starting from our days at Trout and throughout high school. Whatever grade or whatever year it was always the same question and the same answer on a test that some teacher had given. Question...What everyone make on Ms. Lively's Civic test? Answer...Walther made 98 everyone else flunked! He always set the standard! Rest in peace!

Barbara,Stewart, and Katherine
Someone told me yesterday that Stephen had passed away and I was shocked and disbelieved. You all will be in Janye's and my prayers. We don't take the paper and unfortunately do not find out about these things very rapidly. I had such a good time working with all of you during the construction of your home. Back when I was shopping at Albertsons, I frequently ran into Stephen shopping for groceries and we always had a great conversation. He was a joy to be around and it always gave me a "lift" to get to visit with him. I know that this is an extremely hard time for all of us, but keep the faith and God will get us all through this. God bless you all. We love you.

I'm so sorry to hear about Steven. I thought I'd share a couple anecdotes no one else knows about.
Steve was both a brilliant and super-nice guy. I used to call him at his house and ask him to explain a math homework assignment that Mr. (Max) English gave us. He graciously helped me, which probably helped me pass Math. As a side note, years later,I would speak with Mr. English, while he was the bowling teacher my freshman year at AC, about funny things in Jr. High. He told me he once passed out tests and told Steve his was a special test since he was the smartest student in class. Well, as Mr. English continued, the test was the same; he was trying to get into Steve's mind. It worked; Steve made a 98 instead of his usual 100. Mr. English and I laughed a lot about that one--not sure if he ever shared this with Steve.
