SONORA On Thursday, March 21, 2013, Benigno Castilleja Sr., known as "Apa" to his loving family, went to be with our Lord at 100 years old. Ben was born on Feb. 13, 1913, in Kennedy, Texas, to Clara Sedillo and Margarito Castilleja. In June 1930, he married his loving wife of 81 years, Genoveva Sanchez, in Uvalde, Texas. Together they had seven children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genoveva; along with his daughter, Eva Robledo; grandson Eddie Martinez; and brother Modesto Castilleja. He was a pioneer in the sheep shearing industry for about 65 years. He was a devoted Catholic and very well respected in his community. He is survived by his sons, Joe Ben Castilleja Jr. and Hector Castilleja, both of Sonora; daughters Ofilia Gomez of Abilene, Enedina Ramirez and Margarita Samaniego, both of Sonora, Bertha Rebuck of San Angelo and Jessica Robledo of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and many friends. Family visitation and rosary were held Thursday evening, March 21, at Kerbow Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday March 23, 2013, at St. Ann's Catholic Church followed by burial in Sonora Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Abriel Martinez, Steven Pacheco, Anthony, Nathan and Michael Mungia and Kenny Bautista. A very special thank you to Father Lionel Fernando for officiating the service. Thank you to all who assisted in the wonderful music at church and the cemetery. Thank you to EMS, Sutton County Sheriff's office.
