Claude Rogers Obituary

SAN ANGELO Claude W. Rogers, 82, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend passed peacefully into Heaven on Oct. 15, 2010. Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Johnson's Funeral Home, Pastor Mack Roller presiding followed by burial at Lawnhaven Cemetery. Claude was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Bronte, Texas to Leonard C. Rogers and Ida Pruitt. He went on to serve in the United States Navy, and later met Loretta Pearce, the "true love" of his life. Claude and Loretta were married April 17, 1949, in Rockwell, Texas. They later moved to San Angelo, Texas where he resided for the remainder of his life. Claude and Loretta started and raised their family in San Angelo, Texas and always cherished their time together. Claude worked for Goodyear Proving Grounds for over 30 years until his retirement in 1980. After retiring from Goodyear, Claude continued to "work" and spent a lifetime serving all those he came in contact with. He was an eager servant for the Lord, and served the church as a Deacon as well as various other positions - never missing an opportunity to witness, teach and lead others to the Lord. Claude was truly the "Mr. Rogers" of his neighborhood and always enjoyed lending a hand and helping others. His true passions were faith, family, friends, fishing, and living life to the fullest. Over the past three years, Claude was often requested to play his harmonica or share a friendly joke by the staff and patients at West Texas Renal Care. Claude is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Loretta Pearce Rogers, their three children: Claudia Davis, Glen Rogers, Derrel Rogers, and their spouses. Claude and Loretta Rogers also have nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Grandchildren: Michelle Van Zandt-Smola, Lance Van Zandt, Kimberly Mapes, Ricky Rogers, Guy Davis Jr., Kyle Tuttle, Lindsay Rogers, Amber Rogers, and Mikayla Rogers Great-grandchildren: Angela Rodriguez, Noah Claude and Jacob Rogers, Emma-Lee Rogers, Talon Rogers, Hailey Mapes, Abigail and Shelby Van Zandt, Jessica, Trey and Ty Davis. Claude was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Cyle and Ida Pruitt Rogers and his siblings, Woodrow, Raymond, and Hollis Rogers. Pallbearers: Eddie Rogers, Greg Rogers, Lance Van Zandt, Joe McGough, Kyle Tuttle, Ricky Rogers. Honorary Pallbearers: Leonard Gober, Guy Davis Jr., Tony Mapes, Jim Eudy, Royce Rogers, Russell Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations in memory of Claude W. Rogers made to a charity of choice.

The Loveland's will miss Claude tremendously. He was a great friend to our family, and we all loved him so much. He took care of the family "taking care of two households" while I was in Korea, then when I came back he taught me so many home improvement things. My son loved being with him as he told so many stories about groiwng up. Again, we will miss him.

Loretta, Claudia, Glen, and Derrel, you all mean so much to us. Claude was one of the first men toi take me under his arm when I became a Christian in 1963. The times we spent working on the church bus and rebuilding motors in your garage are some of my dearest memories. Loretta, you and Claude have encouraged me and Susan beyond description through almost fifty years of serving God. Heaven is sweeter because Claude is there.
