The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in Baptist Memorials Chapel with Rev. Kevin McSpadden officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Don was born May 2, 1933, in Gary, Ind. to John Edward and Edythe Irene Walker. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. Upon leaving the service, Don pursued a career in driving trucks and various large passenger vehicles working in numerous states and driving for several companies. Don also rode his motorcycle as a funeral escort while living in Arizona. He met and later married the love of his life, Helen Showalter on Sept. 2, 1967, in Rockville, Md. and they shared 45 wonderful years together. Don had a tremendous passion for music. This passion led him to sing as a tenor starting at a young age in the Tucson Arizona Boys Choir and through his adult life. He also played the trombone and loved playing in numerous community bands and in the churches he attended. In 1983, Don and Helen moved to Arizona, where they lived for 20 years and were very active with their church and community. In 2005 they moved to San Angelo and joined the First Baptist Church, where Don played with the orchestra and in the local community band where he loved performing with all the members at various events. Don also loved traveling in his R.V. after retirement. He was a loving husband and father and he will be dearly missed by those who knew him. Donald was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Helen S. Walker of San Angelo; his daughter, Donaleen Millard of North Beach, Md.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous Ohio cousins. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to all the nursing staff at Baptist Memorial Center for all of the years of devoted care for Don.
