SAN ANGELO Lonnie Alton (L.A.) Cantrell Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior on Oct. 11, 2013, at the age of 79. He was born on Jan. 27, 1934, in Brown County to Lonnie and Lucille Cantrell Sr. L.A. graduated from Brownwood High School in 1953 and began his career with Safeway. He met the love of his life, Mary Minnette Hinrichs in Ballinger in 1956. They married on June 23, 1956, and shared the next 57 years together. L.A. went into the Army shortly after they were married and was transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He returned to Texas and retired from Safeway after 34 years of service. He then worked for M and M Grocery for nine years. From then on, he spent his time ranching and enjoying retirement. L.A. was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Joyce Mooney and Barbara Allen. He is survived by his brother Steve Cantrell (Mary) of Brownwood. He leaves behind dear wife, Mary; son Alton Cantrell (Janice) of San Angelo; daughter Mandy Stewart (Corine) of Castroville; three grandchildren, Candice Cantrell, Dustin Stewart and Brandi Bockhorn (Derek); and four great-grandchildren, Lane, Connor and Autumn Stewart and Aubrey Bockhorn. Pepaw was a kind and gentle loving man who enjoyed watching his Cowboys. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to meet at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013. Procession will leave at 9:30 a.m. to a Graveside service at Mullins Cemetery.
