Patrick Pape Obituary

SAN ANGELO Patrick Jack Pape, 29, of San Angelo, departed our physical world to be at peace on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010. Visitation with the family will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ricky Burk, senior pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating, assisted by cousin the Rev. Brian Pape of Flower Mound, Texas. Honorary pallbearers are Clay Engdahl of Bryan, Texas, Dennis Hester of Houston, Texas, Charles (Chuck) Holden of New York and Burney Shelton of San Angelo, Texas. Patrick was born Sept. 17, 1981, in San Angelo, Texas. Growing up in San Angelo, Patrick played many sports with baseball and swimming being his favorites. He graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 2000, where he participated and lettered in swimming. He then attended Angelo State University and graduated in 2006, with a bachelor of business administration degree in international business with a minor in French. In addition to the courses at Angelo State, he attended the University of Dauphine in Paris and the University Laval in Quebec City, Canada, where he studied the French language. After his formal education, Patrick worked mainly as a certified physical trainer. Extending beyond college graduation, Patrick spent several years engaged in French language study with the aide of his tutor, Peggy Tharp. Patrick was worldly, having visited many countries where he thoroughly enjoyed experiencing different cultures and people. The guitar was Patrick's passion, having spent much time playing with friends, but was just as happy strumming alone at home. Patrick had a gentle spirit and a beautiful soul. He embodied what a person should be, having been a loving son, brother and friend. His heart of gold, sweet smile and wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed. Patrick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Zonval Johnston and Odessa Jackson, Raymond Alfred (Jack) and Verba Pape; aunt Opal Johnston; uncle Bradley McCain; cousin Shane Wilson; and very special friend, Samantha (Sam) Turn. He is survived by his mother, Annette Johnston of San Angelo; his father, Jack Pape and wife Norma of San Angelo; siblings Jennifer Renee Pape, Verba Sheree Pape and Tom Nuncio, all of San Angelo, Robin Pape and husband Seunghwan Lee of Seoul, S. Korea; step-siblings, Michelle and Venancio Cuevas of San Angelo, Courtney and Mario Castro of Harlingen, Texas, Freddie Munoz of Juneau, Alaska; nephews Roman and Pheonix Nuncio of San Angelo; uncles and aunts, Raymond and Sandra Pape, Ed and Mary Ann Pape, Donald and Delores Mauldin, Larry and Sharita Russell, all of San Angelo, Wesley and Sherron Pape of Rio Rancho, N.M., Delbert and Linda Pape of Baytown, Texas; aunt Donna Bishop of San Angelo, Texas; cousins and their spouses, Bradley and Kristi Bishop, William and Jamie Bishop, Cody Brazeal, Ciara and Joseph Wink, Michael Mauldin, Deborah (Debbie) and Roy Kinney, Darron and Jeanette Mauldin, Antheny and Michelle Pape, Amantha and Ron Lubke, Wade Pape, Marla and John Tscherne, Peter and Christina Pape, Lisa and Brian Choate, Andy and Rona Pape, Jase and Jenny Pape, Ben and Crystal Pape, Larry Russell Jr., Chatta (C.B.) and Laray Russell, Jake Russell, Scott and Tammy Pape, Brian and Jen Pape, Brent Pape, Jordan Russell, Katie and Matthew Millican; and numerous wonderful friends. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at johnsons-funeralhome.com. The family would like to recognize an inspiring teacher that Patrick had, Mrs. Karen Ligon. "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all." Psalms 34: 18,19

I am very sad that Patrick is gone, and I am sad for his family. His parents raised a sweet, kind man. It's been about a year since I saw Patrick, but every time I did see him, he was friendly to me. That's the thing about Patrick - he was always so popular and handsome, but he was humble and genuinely nice to everyone. I will never forget that about him. And I will never forget Patrick. I hope he is at peace.

My Aunt Mary Ryan informed me yesterday of Patrick's passing and I was heartbroken to hear the news. I met Patrick at a Pape family reunion when we were 9 years old. We became pen pals for awhile and I even still would think of him when I remembered my family's days of living in West Texas. We lost touch not much later but after reading above I see we would have had so much in common today. He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with Patrick and his family. I've known Patrick for most all of my life. From the time we were little kids @ Bowie, through the funny stages of our lives when we wore huge glasses, to the Mr. Little days at Glenn Junior High, and all the way through some of the most unforgettable days of our lives at Central High School, we remained close friends. He would do anything for anyone, anytime and he definitely had a way of touching the lives of those around him. I will always remember Patrick's smile, his laugh, & his kind heart. He will be deeply missed...never forgotten!

I had the honor of meeting Pat through his sister Robin back in his high school years and enjoyed his company on many occasions. Throughout the years that followed, Pat was always the first to say hello and shake my hand whenever we would see each other. He could light up a room and I will always remember his smile for what it was, genuine. Thanks for being a great person Pat. To Annette and the girls, be strong in each other and you will persevere like you always have. Sincerely,
