Richard Martin Obituary

Richard L Martin passed away on November 26, 2014 in San Angelo, Texas, after a short illness.

He was born June 13, 1943, in San Angelo to H Myrte and Ethel L Martin. He was seventy-one years, five months and twelve days old and is preceded in death by his parents and older brother, William (Bill) H Martin. He is survived by his wife, Anna Beth; their daughter, Anna, her two sons, Thomas and Seth; and their son, Robert, his wife, Lisa, their daughter, Taylor and his nephew, John, wife Serena and their son, Ethan and his wife.

Richard graduated San Angelo Central High School, went to the then Angelo State, and graduated with Range Animal Science degree from Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas where he and Beth met.

Richard has worked at Shell Chemical at Houston, Ralston Purina in Jasper, CRC Wireline and as an owner of a Shell station in Big Lake and the Texas Department of Highways. He and Beth raised their children in Big Lake. He was a member of the 4H club in Reagan County. He became a Christian in Big Lake. Richard and Beth moved to San Angelo in 1998, where they cared for his parents until their death and he worked at the Dept. of Highways there until his retirement. He belonged to the Angelo Bible Church and was a Deacon for many years at. Richard was a pilot and until his death was building a two seat experimental plane. He and Beth lived on a private airfield and Richard really enjoyed being a part of the Airpark community with many friends who are special. He belonged to the local chapter of the EAA. Richard helped at Beth's family home place after the death of her father. He enjoyed the ranch and often said that he had retired twice only to go back to work.

He is survived by Tim and Marian Turner and their children and grandchildren, and by Jack and Susan Thorn, their child and grandchild.

Richard will be missed by his wife, children/grandchildren, all the family both Belcher and Bland, including his brothers and sisters in Christ. He will be loved and missed by all.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Angelo Bible Church officiated by, his brothers in Christ, Pastors Jim Stanley and Charles Williams officiating. Please make remembrances to the charities of your choice. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
