SAN ANGELO Ron W. Jones, 59, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away, Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, in Jal, N.M. His parents Clarence and Maureen Jones preceded him in death. Ron was born Aug. 2, 1952, and raised in San Angelo and went on to graduate from Central High School. In 1974, he earned his bachelor of science in physics with honors from the University of Texas. He then received a master's degree in business administration at Angelo State University in 1979. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of San Angelo before starting his company, Greystone Engineering. Ron was a civil engineer, planner and surveyor; his work touched many areas of San Angelo including subdivisions, golf courses, new construction and more. His keen business sense and attention to detail ensured the success of Greystone, which he ran for 28 years up until his death. Ron was a Master Mason Concho Lodge 1260, a Suez Shriner with York Rite since 1981. He was also involved in many organizations including Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, American Society of Engineers and was past-president of River Corridor Commission. An enthusiastic UT Longhorns fan, Ron had his photo taken with 1995 National Championship quarterback Vince Young, decorated his office and home with Longhorn paraphenalia and he made sure his beloved dog, Coly, got to see the UT football games when he was out of town. Ron is survived by his 25-year companion of the heart, Chris Brininstool, of Jal; also by his aunt, Bonnie Stubbs; and cousins Charles Stubbs of Marcy Tombosky of Odessa, Texas, and James Jones of Irvine, Calif. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Internment will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3. Services will be conducted by Gary Dill, president of the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M. Pallbearers will be Jason Miller, David Fava, Armando Chavez, Micheal L. Williams, Silvio Cervantes and Jory Rector. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Suez Shriners. Family and friends can sign the online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
