SAN ANGELO John Broome passed away Monday, May 21, 2012. He was 87 years of age. John was born March 9, 1925, in Bowling Green, Ky., to Clarence Lafayette and Rebecca Broome. He grew up in Bowling Green and graduated Bowling Green High School in 1943, and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served four years. He graduated From Western Kentucky University in 1948. John and Mary Frances Scott were married in Bowling Green May 29, 1948. The lived in Dallas, Texarkana and San Angelo, Texas, where he retired from GTE in 1987. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Telephone Pioneer Club. He is survived by wife of 64 years; son Mike Broome in Colleyville, Texas; granddaughter Kelly Deary; grandson John Brandon Hurt; three great-grandsons; and son-in-law John Hurt. He was preceded in death by parents; three siblings; and daughter Melinda Hurt. Graveside service conducted by Johnson's Funeral Home will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Dr. Mark Bumpus officiating. The family wishes to express great appreciation to Odyssey Hospice nurses, Dr. Vayden Stanley and Dr. Brenda for their wonderful care during his difficult time.
