SAN ANGELO Mary E. McClaren, 92, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 25, 2014. She was born at her family home in Dodge City, Kan., on Nov. 25, 1921, to Frank and Minnie Davis. She attended schools in Dodge City and received her associate's degree from Dodge City Jr. College on May 28, 1942. Following this degree, she continued her education at Kansas State University. She met Norman Fay McClaren from Greensburg, Kan., at a 4-H camp in 1942, and they were married on March 20, 1943. They were married for 68 years. She and Norman lived in Dodge City, Kan., Lakin, Kan., and Golden, Colo., residing there for 34 years. In 2002, they moved to San Angelo, Texas. She was a member of the Lakin, Kansas United Methodist Women, past president of Lakin PEO, past Worthy Matron of the Lakin, Kansas Order of Eastern Star #244, past Worthy Matron of the Golden, Colo., Order of Eastern Star, #133, a member of the Golden, Colo., Garden Club and a member of United Methodist Church, Golden, Colo. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star. Mary worked at Kelly Food Store, Lakin, Kan., the United States Postal Service in Lakin, Kan., and at the Jefferson County Welfare Department in Golden, Colo. She retired in 1989. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; her brothers, Donald and Frank Davis; sister-in-law Flo Davis; son-in-law Gary Schauf; and grandson Daryl Dyar. She is survived by her daughters, Janice and husband Clifford Miller, San Angelo, Texas, Donna and William Dyar, Palm Springs, Calif.; brother Harold and wife Donna Davis, McPherson, Kan.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Arlene Davis, Denver, Colo., and Alta Mae Byers, Lakewood, Colo.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Foothills Funeral Home at 17173 Mt. Vernon Road, Golden, CO, 80401; followed by burial in Golden, Colo., Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contribute to the Chili Appreciation Society International, (CASI) Scholarship Fund, 802 Horizon, Murphy, TX 75074; or Meals For The Elderly, 310 E. Houston Harte Expressway, San Angelo, TX 76903. Arrangements are by Foothills Funeral Home in Golden, Colo. Local arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home, San Angelo, Texas.
