SAN ANGELO Nannie Westbrook Pope, 101, of San Angelo, peacefully joined her Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. The family will celebrate her life Friday, May 9, at Johnson's Funeral Home. The service will start at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Nannie was born on June 22, 1912, to the late William Henry and Mollie Westbrook nee Wheat. Nannie attended Grape Creek Grade School and was a 1931 graduate of Lake View High School. While at LVHS, Nannie played on the girls basketball team. She married the love of her life I.O. "Jade" Pope on March 10, 1933. A common theme throughout Nannie's life would be seen in her efforts to serve the Lord by tirelessly and selflessly serving others. In her early years, this included doing tasks on her family farm to help her father such as picking cotton, driving tractors and making sausage. Later, she served many years as a caretaker for Judge Jared P. Hill and family as well as many others working as a nurse at Goodfellow Air Force Base in which she received numerous outstanding service awards. Outside of her work as a nurse, Nannie did not relent in her dedication to service, especially to her family. Whether it was making her famous pecan pie, pound cake or macaroni and cheese for her grandchildren or sewing handmade aprons (of which she made over 400) for her friends and family. Nannie was passionate in everything she did, especially in cheering for the Rangers, Cowboys, Spurs and Thunder sports teams. Several of her great-grandchildren attended Texas Tech University and Nannie also became an avid Red Raider fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jade Pope; her son-in-law William Clyde "Cap" Berry; and her three sisters and six brothers. To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her two loving children, Patsy "Pat" Berry and Henry Pope and wife Billie Helen; grandchildren Sherry Cooper and husband Buddy, Susie Peznowski and husband Ray and Mollie Dierschke and husband Monroe; great-grandchildren Ryan Cooper and wife Kaki, Katie Heinrich and husband Ryan, Jason Moncrief, Brent Keith and wife Brandy, Sarah Tharp and husband Marshall, Sally Dierschke and Sadie Dierschke; great-great-grandchildren Kate and Lily Cooper and Halli and Blair Heinrich; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved poodle, Beau. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Odyssey Hospice especially Megan Vick, Ann Crow and Barbara Johnson. The family also thanks her dedicated landscaper, Henry Klepac, for his many years of service to Nannie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Odyssey Hospice Gentiva Foundation, gentivahospicefoundation.org/. Family and friends may sign an online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
