SAN ANGELO Louise James Smith, better known as Mama Lou, went home on July 11, 2014, at the age of 86. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Perez, Cliff Prescott, Freddy Montelongo, Danny Hernandez, Roy Martinez, Mark Hendel, and Martin Ledezma. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. There will be a dinner following at the Suez Temple on Loop 306. Mama Lou was born on Aug. 14, 1927, in Mildred, Texas to David and Della James. She loved being a mother and grandmother. She married her best friend and the love of her life, Bobby Joe Smith, on July 7, 1946, in Deming, New Mexico. She helped her husband start their business, S&S Cabinet Shop, in 1965. She loved to go dancing. In her later years Louise loved traveling with Bob for the Shriners. Bob and Louise just celebrated 68 wonderful years together. Mama Lou was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Jeanette Sperduti and Douglas Harold James. She is survived by sons Larry Joe Smith and wife Barbara and Corky Smith and wife Stacey, all of San Angelo; daughter Karen Banks and husband David of San Angelo; grandchildren Bobby Watson, Jeffrey Smith, Arica Lea Shields, Tyna Skidmore and Lisa White; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many special friends.
