SAN ANGELO Herbert August Wanier II was born June 23, 1920, in San Angelo, Texas. He made the journey to his final home early Saturday morning, July 12, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Delda; two sons, Herb (Susan) and Harvey (Cheri); daughter Helen Harville (Roy); seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew. Herb was born and raised in West Texas and New Mexico before enlisting in the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theater in World War II. After an honorable discharge in November 1945, he married the love of his life, Delda Kohler, on Jan. 6, 1946. He began a career in printing and worked for numerous major newspapers in Texas, Colorado and California. He concluded his career owning his own print shop in San Angelo. After his retirement, he dedicated his time to community service, being active in V.F.W. Post 1815 where he was post commander before advancing to state and national offices. Herb enjoyed traveling, had a passion for antique cars and loved music; playing not only mandolin but guitar, fiddle, harmonica, accordion, piano and organ. Herb was a loving and devoted husband and father who enjoyed life and being among family and friends. He placed his trust in the Lord and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church as well as being active in the Business Men's Bible Class for many years. He will be greatly missed by all. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Johnson's Funeral Home. A celebration of Herb's life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow later that day at 3 p.m. in Mullins Cemetery. The Rev. Darrell Smith will officiate. Family and friends may sign the online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
