SAN ANGELO Jo Ann Wall died in her home on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, after a long struggle against heart disease and lupus. She was 76. Our beloved wife, mother and friend was born in San Angelo, Texas, on Feb. 28, 1938. Known as Jonie Pratt in her youth, she enjoyed a fun and loving childhood with her only sibling, her brother, Bob (Robbie) Pratt. Jonie quickly blossomed into a great beauty and married a young Air Force officer, Jimmy Mizelle. The two were stationed at Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where Jonie had two children, Jim and Terri Mizelle. She returned to San Angelo in her early 30s and had two more children, Colin and Kelly Shanafelt, with Rody Robert Shanafelt. Jonie had an insatiable need to create and began flipping houses before flipping was cool and before a single reality home renovation show ever aired. It was here that her talent for design flourished. This is also the time when she married the man who would become the great love of her life, Lubbock native Jack L. Wall. Jack and Jonie purchased and remodeled an expansive home on Hemlock Street for their now large extended family of eight siblings. She decorated her home with white carpet and blue accent paint to highlight the Spode china set she acquired in London, England. Jack and Jonie purchased one of San Angelo's first monogram machines and turned one of the Hemlock house's spare rooms into a thriving custom embroidery business, Monograms & More. After a decade of success, Jack and Jonie closed shop and moved to Abilene, Texas, where Jonie worked as a real estate agent at Senter Realtors. Jonie was known to be a fabulous cook. She was immensely proud of all her children and loved her grandchildren without limits. Whenever not available in person, she spoke to her children on the telephone daily, which was one of the great joys of her life. In Abilene, Jonie was a member of the Abilene Sewing Guild and proudly served as a docent at Frontier Texas. Jo Ann Wall was a kind, intelligent, creative and passionate woman with the greatest capacity for love any around her had witnessed. She will be dearly missed. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Matta Mae Pratt (Fulgum). She is survived by husband Jack L. Wall; sons Jim Mizelle and Colin Shanafelt; daughters Terri Mizelle and Kelly Shanafelt; and seven grandchildren. A funeral ceremony for Jo Ann will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard Ave., San Angelo, Texas, 76903. Viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, Texas. Family and friends may sign an online guestbook at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
