SAN ANGELO Charlene Landbeck of San Angelo passed away in San Angelo Community Medical Center because of complications of a lengthy illness on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014. Memorial service for Charlene was held Jan. 19, 2014, at in Shaffer Funeral Home chapel in San Angelo. Pastor Kurt Fangmeier, pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church in San Angelo, was the officiant. Charlene was interred in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM Highway 1223, in San Angelo on Jan. 31, 2014, privately, with family only. Charlene was born June 5, 1934, in San Angelo, Texas, to the late Carl (Charlie) and Ruth Mueller Straach. She was a graduate of Miles High School, worked at the bank in Miles after graduation. In October 1955, she married Lynn Landbeck of Gonzales, Texas, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miles, Texas. She was a homemaker until 1975, when she went to work for her Aunt Ella and Uncle Henry Straach, owners of Henry's Flowers in San Angelo. It was there that she learned all the characteristics and the ins and outs of the floral business. After Henry's Flowers closed its doors, she went to work for Shirley Floral Company for many years. She was known as "The Plant Lady." She loved working with and tending to all the plants at Shirley's Greenhouse. She had a wonderful green thumb. During her formative years, Charlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles, Texas, and was very active in their Luther League. Later on she became a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in San Angelo and served the Lord for many years there. She was a Sunday school teacher and worked on every church committee that she was able to. Charlene was always a willing volunteer for her church. She later joined Calvary Lutheran Church in San Angelo and was a member there at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a niece, Jackie Muery Worley. At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband of 58 years, Lynn Landbeck of San Angelo; her daughter, Bonnie Landbeck Lancaster and her husband, Curt, of Woodway, Texas; son David W. Landbeck and his wife, Candy, of Lubbock, Texas; granddaughter Chelsea Landbeck Farley of Slaton, Texas, and her husband, Elijah, and their sons, (her great-grandsons) William Farley and Jude Farley; and her grandson, Matthew Landbeck of Lubbock, Texas. She was also survived by her sister, Janet Straach Muery of San Antonio, Texas; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and George Muery of San Angelo; one niece; two nephews; and other loved family members and dear friends. Both Lynn and Charlene were active volunteers with Meals For The Elderly. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Meals For The Elderly, 310 E. Houston Harte Expressway, San Angelo, TX 76903; Calvary Lutheran Church, 3231 College Hills Blvd., San Angelo, TX 76904; or . Charlene was a woman of true beauty and grace. She genuinely loved all of her family and never met a stranger. She will be truly and greatly missed by all of us who loved her dearly and will remain forever in our hearts.
