Marie Lindberg Obituary

Lindberg, Marie Marie Lindberg, age 91, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Friday, June 17th, at Beacon Hill at Eastgate health care center and was welcomed home into the arms of the Lord. Marie was born December 17, 1924, in Grand Rapids, the only daughter of four children of Carl Edwin Lindberg and Alice (Beck) Lindberg. Marie loved the business world, was efficient and dedicated in her variety of positions throughout the years, and retired in 1989 from her 30-plus years' position as an executive assistant to the president of Foremost Insurance Company. She was so thankful to complete her undergraduate degree at Aquinas College in her late 60s, as education was a long time goal which she pursued with every ounce of determination. Marie was a woman of strong character and values, tenacious in her independence, and was admired for her sharp intellect, love of learning, and her obvious joy in challenging others' point of view. Friends, family and caregivers described her as a spitfire, strong-willed, a night-owl, persistent, feisty, generous and always interested in the larger issues of the community and world. She freely admitted she was not fond of traditional female roles, and was an avid supporter of women's rights and their ongoing education. Her interests included classical music, playing piano and the organ for Fountain Street Church, the hand bell choir, adopting many orphaned cats over the years, animal protection, and dark chocolate. Marie was preceded in death by her three brothers, Carl Lindberg, Oscar (Isabelle) Lindberg, and Edwin (Mareta) Lindberg. She is survived by nine nephews and nieces, Fred Lindberg, Mary Buchan, Richard Lindberg, Carol Henderson, Rosita Smith, Marilyn Nash, Ed Lindberg, Sheryl Bloem and David Lindberg, as well as Debra Easley, her dedicated caregiver of the last four years, and good friend Kathy Riebel. Visitation and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Avenue SE, Grand Rapids (Kentwood). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of West Michigan, C-SNIP, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be left at ofieldfuneralhome.com
