John Edward Fowler (1937 - 2017)

The Guest Book is expired.

John Edward Fowler, 79, of Shepherdsville, formerly of Grayson County, returned to his Heavenly Father on Sept. 16, 2017.
He was born in Andulisa, Ala., on Nov. 10, 1937, the son of John William and Lena Bell Hardy Fowler. He was a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer and worked on aircraft carriers, receiving the Purple Heart for his selfless service to our country. After retiring for the military, Mr. Fowler worked for Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for 20 years as its chief engineer before retiring.
He was a deacon at Caneyville Baptist Church for 20 years before relocating, and became a member of Bardstown Junction Baptist Church. He loved his horses and rode rodeo bucking broncos and Brahma bulls. He also loved his yard and his flowers. He had the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood. He always made sure the curbs and landscaping were impeccable.
Mr. Fowler never met a stranger -- he had many friends. He was a very compassionate man and was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.
Of all the things he loved, he loved his family the most. He was a loving husband to Betty Jean, who he'd known since she was 8 years old, and a devoted and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Mr. Fowler leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of almost 60 years, Betty Jean; children Pam Fowler, John Keith Fowler (Lisa), Tammy Simon (Philip) and Jim Fowler (Lisa); five grandchildren, Philip Simon II, Brandi Knapper (Mike), Amanda Derossett (Aarron), Misty Breedlove and Chris Haun; three great-grandchildren, Kellan and Ryann Knapper and Tygh Derossett; two young men who called him Grandpa, Thomas and Chris Lane; special friends Sonny, James, Jess and Tinki; and a whole host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
The funeral is 2 p.m. EDT Thursday, Sept. 21 at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home in Shepherdsville, with Shawn Majors officiating. Burial is in Brookland Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday and from 10 a.m. EDT until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
