CONRAD Dr. Christian Edward Berg, 85, who practiced optometry in Conrad for 35 years, died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Friday, May 3.
A vigil is 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Pondera Funeral Home. A funeral Mass is noon Thursday at St. Michael's Church in Conrad.
Dr. Berg was born May 26, 1927, in Hettinger, N.D. After graduating from Hettinger High School, he joined the U.S. Navy just before World War II ended. After retiring from optometry, he and his wife Dolores embarked on second careers as owner-operators of a new Super 8 Motel in Belen, N.M. They returned to Conrad in 1996. Over his long life, Dr. Berg enjoyed hiking, boating, golfing and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Dolores; his children, Laura (Bill), Scott, Michele, Michael (Karen), Karen, Kathy, Brian (Carrie), Tim and Chris (Jackie); sisters Peggy and Ann; grandchildren Ashlee, Simon, Shane, Blaine, Zeb, Dawson, Bridger and Cassidy; great-grandchildren Serena and Matthew; and numerous nieces and nephews.
