Edna passed away peacefully at home in Columbia Falls, Tuesday, April 9, under the loving hospice care of her daughter, Kathy Wright. A survivor of both breast cancer
and lymphoma, she lost her battle with leukemia.
Edna was born April 29, 1929, in St Paul, Minn., the fifth of six children born to Bernard and Louise Husnik. She graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Mankato, Minn., and received her RN degree from St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. As an adventurous young woman, she moved to New York City and worked at St Luke's Hospital, enjoying the Broadway shows. She moved back to Minnesota to work at St Mary's Hospital in Rochester. There, she met her future husband Kiernan, a Montana man. After two years of a long distance relationship, they were married and moved to Butte, where Kiernan worked for the Montana Highway Dept. Several work-related moves and six children later, they settled in Cascade. They thrived in church and school activities. Edna's strong Catholic faith and love of family defined her life. She was ever devoted and set a Christian example for her family and friends. Edna moved to Great Falls after Kiernan passed away in 1988. She enjoyed the company of a close circle of friends until her declining health brought her to live with her daughter Kathy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kiernan; and sons John Thomas and Patrick.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Wright (Steve) of Columbia Falls and Ellen (Dominick) Speranza of Helena; sons David (Peg) Minehan of Issaquah, Wash., and Kiernan(Tracy) Minehan of La Crescent, Minn.; sisters Eloise Kaliher of New Hope, Minn., and Lois Buelow of St. Cloud, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
