Conrad —Edward William Emery went to be with the angels on August 12th in Long Beach, California at the age of 93. He was born on May 4, 1920 in Valier, Montana. He graduated from Valier High School in 1938: where he is rumored to have come up with the name for the schools mascot - Valier Panthers. During his childhood he worked for the family business in Valier called Emery Mercantile, prior to joining the army
. His number was one of the first to be called as WWII was approaching in December 7, 1941. Shortly after basic training he was sent to the European theater with the 8th U.S. Air Force
and training with the new Norton Bomb site. He flew missions over Germany (pathfinder) used to follow-up bombing raids. After his military service, He worked at the Great Falls Tribune where he met Genevieve Stucky -Van Voast. They married in May 2, 1948. They had two sons William, born in 1952, and Douglas born in 1960. He worked at Mountain Bell Telephone Company (Quest Corporation) in Conrad, Montana as an electrical lineman for 38 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers & a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a High Priest of the Masonic Lodge Pondera Chapter 21 where he was a Master Royal Arch Mason of the Grand Chapter R.A.M of Montana. He was a Deacon/Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad, Montana and currently a Member of the Los Alamitos Good Shepard Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the VFW
Post 7655 in Conrad, Montana & the Auxiliary. He was known as an outstanding fly fisherman. He had an internal compass and could always find the most amazing fishing spots many of which most four wheel trucks would find it hard to reach. Even at age 85 he was able to catch an 85lb Halibut in Valdez, Alaska. He also loved to hunt pheasants, ducks, deer, & antelope. He also loved bowling and playing bridge. The Emery's spent a lot of time traveling the United States and the world. He has been residing in Los Alamitos, California for the past eight years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Genevieve Marie Emery (aka Gen), his mother Edna Emery; father William D Emery, brothers William D Emery (aka "B") and Robert M Emery.
He is survived by his son William L Emery & and his girlfriend Kimmie Rawlins of North Pole, Alaska, Granddaughters Christel Lee Emery, & Danielle Marie Emery of Fairbanks, Alaska, son Dr. Douglas V Emery and his wife Elizabeth of Westminster, California, Grand daughter Kelli D Emery of Dallas, Texas: Grandsons Eddie Emery of Boston, Massachusetts & Billy Emery of Westminster, California and three very special ladies who have been his caregivers for the past several years; Martha, Yolanda & Gabby.
Services will be held on Mon, Aug 19, at the Conrad First Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Conrad Cemetery with a luncheon to follow back at the church. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Sunday at the Pondera Funeral Home.
