Eleanor B. Thronson

Eleanor B. (Bunkowski) Thronson, 95, of Great Falls, a retired teacher, artist, mother, grandmother and devoted Christian, died of natural causes Saturday, Jan. 12, at a local hospital.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at O'Connor Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery. O'Connor Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Eleanor was born of German-Polish parentage Oct. 28, 1917, in Valley City, N.D. She received a B.A. degree from Valley City State Teachers College and worked as a teacher in Great Falls for many years. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Eleanor was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving in many leadership roles in the congregation.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Penelope (Jan Davis) Thronson of Larkspur, Calif., and Debra Poitra and Joan (Jim) Roberson both of Great Falls; sons Robert P. (Carolynn) Thronson of San Antonio, Texas, and Ronald S. Thronson of Great Falls; sister Gerry Foss of Valley City, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul R. Thronson in 1986; and grandson Kevin Thronson.
