Fred Ray Olson
Great Falls —Fred Ray Olson, career military man and gentle giant, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2014 at the age of 75.
Pop loved to fish, work in his yard, and spoil his dogs. But he was happiest having long conversations with friends and family, smoking innumerable cigarettes and laughing to tears. Fred and his John Wayne voice inspired affection in all those who knew him and he had a particular talent for looking you in the eye and making you feel how important you were to him. Fred was born in Cut Bank, Montana in 1938 and married Melba Ann Murray (Dec.) at the age of 21. He served in the Army
as well as the Marines and was a recruiter for much of his career. Within a few years of losing Ann, Fred married Alida Marie Little in 1977, who passed away last spring.
Fred now rejoins those loved ones who preceded him in death: first wife Melba Ann, daughter Teresa Storie, granddaughter Alicia Storie, brothers Howard and Harold and second wife Alida Marie. He is mourned by his sons Jon and wife Karen Olson, Ryan and wife Twila Olson, and Russell Olson; son-in-law Tim Storie; stepdaughter Coleen and husband Jack Rosenberg; stepsons Boyd and wife Marlys Sliper, and Joe and wife Katie Sliper; sisters Betty Dove and Donna Johnson; grandchildren Lucas Storie, Heidi, Cody and wife Lacy, Chris, Anne, and Jon Wyatt Olson, Hannah Olson, Shelby, Kayla, and Jacquee Rosenberg, Christian, Elizabeth and Colter Sliper, and Niki Stroh; 9 great-grandchildren and countless friends and extended family blessed by knowing Fred.
A Visitation will be held Friday, March 28, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at Croxford Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, March 29, 1:00 pm in the Rose Room Chapel at Croxford Funeral Home.
