Jack L. Songer
Lewistown —of Lewistown, husband, dad, grampa, great grampa, a true gentleman among men; heaven welcomed Jack Loyd Songer on Thursday December 12, 2013. Jack was born April 13, 1932 on the Musselshell River in Garfield County, Montana to Alvin W. and Thelma E. (Elliot) Songer. They moved to Spokane Washington when Jack was just a boy. He enlisted in the Navy in 1949 during the Korean War
serving as a flight engineer with Patrol Squadron 47 on a PBY Airship. He married Joanne Wyman on November 11, 1956. They were blessed with five children Gwen, Kim, Larry, Linda and Loretta. Jack's 25 year law enforcement career began as a Fergus County deputy continuing on as Undersheriff and retiring as Sheriff. Honest and loyal, he was a man of integrity whose character traits inspired others. He loved to spend time with his family camping, fishing, playing crib, pinochle and watching good movies! Jack also enjoyed getting together with his brothers Alvin, Ed, and Mike and cousin Dick Songer to sing and play their guitars and harmonicas. He was a real "Jack"-of-all-trades….carpentry, mechanics, cowboying and marksmanship; a true perfectionist and master craftsman who built beautiful wood furniture. He had an infectious laugh that would warm any heart and his life left the world a better place, with heaven rejoicing that he is now there!
