James Francis Snow III

HAYS James Francis "Snowman" Snow III, 84, a US Marine Corps veteran, lifelong cattle rancher and coordinator of community powwows and rodeos, especially the annual veterans' powwow in Hays, died of natural causes Wednesday, Oct. 10, at NMCC in Havre.

A private family wake is in progress at the Snow Ranch in Hays. Wake services continue 5 p.m. Friday at the Red Whip Center, with rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, with a full military honors burial in Harlem Cemetery. Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook handled arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Delores of Fort Belknap; daughters Ivy Snow and Jo Jimy Snow of Fort Belknap and Amy Snow of Hays; sons James F. Snow IV and Curtis Snow of Fort Belknap, Shawn L. Snow, Lyle Snow Sr., Duane "Duey" Snow and Shawn C. Snow of Hays and Spencer Snow Sr. of Lame Deer; stepsons Steven Gardipee of Seattle, David Bigby Garcia of Nampa, Idaho, and Calvin Bigby and Donald Bigby of Fort Belknap; stepmother Bertha Snow; siblings Elwell "Ozzie" Snow and Melvina "Tiny Girl" Snow of Hays; 40 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by children Elizabeth Clerc, Nona Pitkanen and Crystal Snow.
