Joan Coffman Bartle
Great Falls —Joan Coffman Bartle, 82, of Great Falls, died of complications to leukemia on June 15, 2013, at a local healthcare facility. A private family graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Croxford Funeral Home.
Joan was one of nine children born to Elmer and Stella (Manuel) Coffmann in Lewistown on March 4, 1931. She was raised in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School. After graduation she moved to Great Falls where she lived out her life. In 1949 she married Alex Nicholls. They had a son, Rodney, and later divorced. In 1956, she married Edwin Bartle, they had two daughters, Denise and Roberta.
In 1967 she began working for the City-County Planning Office as the office secretary and after 24 years, she retired as the Administrative Assistant. After retirement, she and Ed enjoyed numerous trips all across the country and throughout Europe, spending time with family and meeting new friends. Joan was always busy baking, reading, crafting, gardening and there was always a jigsaw puzzle in progress on the family room table. But the biggest joy in her life was spending special time with her grandkids and great grandkids.
She is survived by her daughters Denise (Chris) Johnson and Roberta Lindhorst; grandchildren Lisa Cheary and Christopher Miller, Lance Johnson, Hayley and Cory Lindhorst, Rodney and Matthew (Michelle) Nicholls; great grandchildren Ayden and Savanah Cheary and Justin and Megan Nicholls.
She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin; son Rodney Nicholls; two brothers and two sisters.
