John W. Todd
Billings, Montana —John W. Todd, 87, of Billings, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 surrounded by family and friends. John was born on May 3rd, 1926 in Geyser, MT to Mabel (Anderson) and John Todd. He attended school in Geyser and was drafted into the Army during his senior year of high school. John served in the South Pacific during WWII
. Recently, in May 2013 he flew to Washington DC, on the Big Sky Honor Flight to be recognized for his service to our country. Upon being discharged from the Army, John returned to Geyser and worked for Powell Construction. In 1952, he went to Alaska and was employed by Morrison Knutson. In 1956 John married Betty J Pitts. Betty passed away in 1962. In 1966 he married Stella Sharkey in Reno, NV. They made their home in Stockton, CA until 1970, when they moved to Billings, MT. John worked for the City of Billings until retiring in 1990. Since that time John spent his time volunteering for St. Vincent de Paul, and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. In 2005 John was recognized by St. Vincent Healthcare with an award for Outstanding Community Service. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Senior Center. John was a generous man, who was always serving his community. He had a twinkle in his eyes and a jolly disposition about him that was uniquely John. He touched the lives of many and passed onto all his grandchildren, the importance of helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mabel Anderson; daughter Jeanne (Todd) Frances; son John Dee Todd; his brother Gene Todd; and his wife Stella Todd.
John will be deeply missed by his numerous friends and family, including grandchildren Courtney (Tim) Flynn of Boise, Jennifer Boudreau of Boise, Sean (Kim) McCoy of Phoenix, and Justin (Audrey) McCoy of El Paso, TX. John was also the proud Grandpa of 4 great-grandchildren.
A reception in his honor will be held at the Billings Community & Senior Center on Fri. August 30th from 12:30 - 3:00 p.m. His family looks forward to meeting John's friends and playing pinochle with them, as this was one of his favorite card games.
The casket will be open for visitation on Friday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday until the start of the funeral. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Saturday, August 31, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Cremation will follow.
