Leo was a peacemaker in a marine's body. He shared his many talents with others by giving them beautiful sapphires that he had dug and faceted himself. He was an excellent woodworker and has blessed many members of the family with various pieces. He, also, enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He was meticulous in his gardening, liked to cook and helped Shirley make candy for everyone every Christmas. He even assisted in making thousands of mints for weddings.

He was civic minded and spent many hours volunteering at the Moose Lodge. Leo was Governor of the Lodge in Billings from 1981-1982.
