Sun River —Lloyd Edison Kunkel, 88, of Sun River, died Friday, June 28, 2013, of natural causes at a local healthcare facility. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, July 3rd, 11:00am, First United Methodist Church, 610 2nd Avenue North, Pastor David Odell officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sun River Cemetery. Croxford Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Lloyd was born on December 11, 1921, in Hedgesville, to Tobias and Isabella (Ross) Kunkel. After spending his boyhood in Hedgesville, he served two years in the US Navy
Seabees. He was employed by the Montana Highway Department for 35 years, retiring as a maintenance supervisor. He was also a member of the Sun River Volunteer Fire Department.
His survivors include his wife Evelyn; daughters Mary Diane (Bob) Antonich, Kathleen Isabell Buell (Vince Yohe), Judy Mae Allen (Phil) Kunz; sons Edward Gregory (Betty) Kunkel, Larry Lee Allen, Richard Bruce (Denise) Allen, Michael Maurice Allen; brothers Roy (Frances) Owens; sisters Darlene (Gary) Davis, Hazel (Carl) Hinderager, Thelma (Bud) Hane; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; he is also survived by Cody, his beloved four-legged friend.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Mary Marguerite; son-in-law Craig A. Buell; grandson Donald Lloyd Buell; sisters Edna (Oscar) Totdah; Polly Berry; Emiral Miller, Pug (Gerald) DeBuff; brother Russ (Barbara) Kunkel; and sister Vera Kunkel.
Lloyd was like a large strong oak tree that shaded and protected his family and friends. He was a 'rock' to all.
