Melvin "John" Bullard

CASCADE Melvin "John" Bullard, 73, of Cascade, died from natural causes Dec. 23, at Peace Hospice.



Per his request, there will be no services. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place under the direction of O'Conner Funeral Home.



Melvin "John" Bullard was born April 18, 1939, in Lewistown to Melvin and Clara (VonBergen) Bullard. He was the third oldest of four children, which included a brother, Larry, and sisters, Lila and Marilyn. He was raised on the family homestead in Stanford and attended school there. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas, for a brief period of time and then to Great Falls.



John married Carol (Freeman) Bullard in May 1959. They had four children, Kevin, Mitchell, Twila and Joleen. They later divorced. He married Roxanne (O'Neill) Bullard in September 1974 and became a second father to her three children, Holly, Brett and Brennon Gaughan.



He held several jobs during his life, the most recent ones being, a Teamster for Garrett Freightlines, a security guard for Holiday Village Mall and he worked in Housekeeping for Benefis HealthCare from 1991 until his retirement in September 2007. When he was not working, John loved to hunt, fish, camp and canoe on the Missouri River. He also enjoyed being at the Dearborn property he and Roxanne owned and driving the canyon between Cascade and Helena.



John is survived by his wife, Roxanne; sister, Marilyn (Vern) Kingston; daughters, Twila Hawley, Jodie (Ron) Harvie and Holly (Sabino) Soto; sons, Kevin Bullard, Mitchell Bullard, Brett Gaughan and Brennon Gaughan; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.



John was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Clara; brother, Larry; and sister, Lila Cook.



John was a very kind and gentle man and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Anyone wishing to remember John is asked to do an act of kindness in his name.
